At Mitad del Mundo, the best time to visit is early morning.

As I mentioned before, to beat the flocks of tour groups that come marching in after lunch like clockwork soldiers, get there when the gates open at 9 am.

For the dryest weather, aim for June to September, and then again from November to January.

The rainiest months? March and April. Think of them as nature’s version of a water park!

Things To Know About Mitad del Mundo

The real “middle of the world” isn’t under that towering monument – it’s actually about 240 meters away.

What truly sets this place apart is the presence of a dormant volcano nearby, as well as the captivating display of energies that vary between hemispheres along the line. It’s fascinating to witness the different forces at work in each part of the world.

Indeed Mitad del Mundo is not all about that perfect Instagram shot; it’s about soaking in the stories. The museums here are crammed with fascinating tales, all about the scientists who cracked the equatorial code.

And here’s another kicker for you: the equator isn’t a razor-thin tightrope – it’s 5 km wide.
