As someone who lives in Putney and loves finding new spots to work remotely, I made it my mission to seek out the best cafes and co-working spaces in the area.

Upon my ‘research’ (aka eating brunch food every day of the week), I quickly realised that there are plenty of great cafes in Putney to choose from.

From those serving hearty full-English breakfasts to those with the space to work remotely, and cafes that specialise in creamy artisan coffees (my favourite), Putney undoubtedly has some of the best cafes in the southwest London area!

14 Best Cafes in Putney

1) Tried & True

📍Location: 279 Upper Richmond Rd, London SW15 6SP

Founded and opened in 2012, this wholesome and friendly cafe has become a local’s favourite when it comes to creamy coffee and homemade tasty breakfasts!

When the New Zealand founder discovered he couldn’t recreate the wild black sandy beaches or volcanic beauty of the country in Putney, they decided to create something a little easier (and more accessible for all of us).

Compared to their favourite cafe back home, Tried & True is a place to “tell tales of the night before, plans for the day ahead and wild schemes for the future were discussed with good friends and flatmates over eggs benedict and a couple of flat whites.” (Tried & True website).

Now a staple for a hearty breakfast in West Putney, Tried & True is big enough to take your laptop and knuckle down on some work whilst enjoying the sunshine (they have a large garden out the back, too!)

🍳 My recommendation: the avocado, egg and feta toast with a side of halloumi. Yum!

2) Sendero

📍Location: Next to Putney mainline station

⏰ Opening times: 6.30 am – 3.30pm (Weekdays) | 8 am – 3.30 pm (Saturday) | 9.30 am – 2.30 pm (Sunday)

☕️ Menu: coffee and light lunches, croissants, bakes and sandwiches

💻 Digital nomad friendly: Yes

🛜 Website: Sendero Menu

Sendero recently opened in 2023, and has quickly become my number-one spot to grab a strong coffee! With Costa queues way too long in the mornings, I decided to pop into this new cafe and give it a go.

With beans grown at high altitudes sourced from locations such as Colombia, Ethiopia and Peru, the taste of their coffee is just unbeatable (and pretty rare in high street cafes).

The downside? You’ll be put off large coffee chains for life. There’s just no going back. Oh, and your bank balance will be seemingly lower after all of the return trips (but they do have a loyalty program, so be sure to sign up to get a free coffee after buying six!)

Sendero also serves breakfast and lunch options such as toasties and croissants. They also have venues in Clapham, Battersea and Brixton.

🍳 My recommendation: a double-shot cappuccino. Sendero – without a doubt – serves the best coffee in Putney.

3) Smugglers

📍Location: 58 Lower Richmond Rd., London SW15 1JT

⏰ Opening times: 7.30 am – 4 pm (Weekdays) | 8 am – 5 pm (Weekends)

☕️ Menu: light brunches, crepes, cakes, bakes, baps and creamy coffees

💻 Digital nomad friendly: Yes

🛜 Website: Smugglers Cafe and Menu

Smugglers is a small, laid-back, beach-vibe cafe on Lower Richmond Road. A stone’s throw from the Half Moon Pub, it’s well-located and easy to get to from Putney High Street.

Decorated with an ode to Cornwall and the coasts of the UK, it’s only small, but has enough room to set up your laptop and work for a few hours whilst enjoying lunch and a coffee.

🍳 My recommendation: Mashed avocado on sourdough toast, with poached St Ewes eggs & halloumi.

4) Dynamo

📍Location: 200-204 Putney Bridge Rd, London SW15 2NA

⏰ Opening times: 7.30 am – 10 pm (Weekdays) | 8.30 am – 5 pm (Sundays)

☕️ Menu: breakfasts, brunch, bar snacks, pastries, salads, pizzas, coffee and cocktails

💻 Digital nomad friendly: Yes, strong wifi

🛜 Website: Dynamo Cafe Putney

Dynamo is the perfect cafe in Putney for brunch in the sun. With lots of outdoor tables and shaded areas, you can enjoy a hearty breakfast whilst the world passes you by.

Dynamo has an extensive menu and serves breakfast, brunch and dinner options.

Known for its pizza and evening atmosphere, we were unsure if the brunch options would be up to scratch. Luckily for us, we were pleasantly surprised!

Halloumi burgers, avocado on toast, chorizo dishes, granola bowls, warm pastries, blueberry pancakes, shakshuka, poke bowls and more are on this delightful Putney cafe’s menu – and not to mention, of course, the pizza 🤤.

It’s also a great cafe in Putney to knuckle down with some work. The wifi is strong, and there’s plenty of space to take a call in private or get on with your to-do list. A strong contender for the best cafe in Putney!

🍳 My recommendation: the halloumi bap. The mix of halloumi, rocket, avocado, tomato jam and sriracha aioli within a seeded brioche roll is just 👌🏼

5) Monies

📍Location: 140 Upper Richmond Road

⏰ Opening times: 7.30am – 4pm (Weekdays) | 8.30am – 4.30/4 pm (Weekends)

☕️ Menu: speciality coffee, Cornish ice creams, milkshakes, wine, cocktails, toasties, granola, eggs and smashed avocado

💻 Digital nomad friendly: Yes, strong wifi

🛜 Website: Monies Putney

“Speciality coffee in the heart of East Putney with Cornish Roots, a love of art and buying local.” – Monies website

Monies is one of our favourite cafes in Putney for an afternoon coffee and a relaxed co-working space. With tables both inside and out, it’s the perfect spot to catch up on some work and sit in the sun.

With a minimalist design, Monies serves creamy hot and cold coffees, along with brunch and toastie options if you’re peckish.

Just a stone’s throw from East Putney station, the staff are friendly and welcoming, and you can walk in and grab a table without booking.

Did I mention the coffee is incredible? Undoubtedly one of the best places to get coffee in Putney!

🍳 My recommendation: the Cornish ice cream. As you would expect, it is perfect. Rich, creamy and full of flavour. Rodda’s Clotted Cream is our recommendation! 👌🏼.

6) Hudsons

📍Location: 113 Lower Richmond Road, London , SW15 1EX

⏰ Opening times: 10am – 10pm Daily | Closed Monday and Tuesday

☕️ Menu: full-English breakfast, veggie breakfasts, omelettes, waffles | steaks, salads, burgers, chips

💻 Digital nomad friendly: Yes

🛜 Website: Hudsons Restaurant and Bar

Whilst Hudsons is labelled as a ‘restaurant and bar’, it’s also one of the best spots in Putney to grab a hearty breakfast and brunch.

With a menu that extends from morning until night, Hudsons is a great all-day cafe, restaurant and bar.

As we were looking for the best cafes in Putney, we decided to head to Hudson’s for breakfast. Whilst I had the Hudsons Rower breakfast and Tom had the Grapplers Bowl (layers of hash browns, cheese, beans, chorizo, bacon and more), we were not disappointed!

Hash browns, sausages, bacon, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes…I’m drooling just thinking about it! 🤤

The perfect cafe in Putney for meeting up with friends and eating lots of hearty, delicious food.

🍳 My recommendation: The Hudsons Rower Breakfast. Expect a plate full of bacon, local pork sausages, hash browns, tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, baked beans, black pudding, eggs and toast. Could you ask for anything more?!

7) Giuliano Deli-Cafe

📍Location: 1A Lacy Rd, London SW15 1NH

⏰ Opening times: 10 am – 4 pm Daily | Closed Sundays

☕️ Menu: home-cooked Italian dishes, paninis, coffee, wine and groceries

💻 Digital nomad friendly: Yes, but space is limited

Giuliano Deli-Cafe is one of the most unique cafes on the list, as it’s completely different to any others in the area.

A family-run business since 1997, the cafe is known as ‘Putney’s Little Gem’ (ref. Positively Putney) and attracts loyal regulars every day of the week.

Serving traditional, home-cooked pasta, Giuliano’s is best enjoyed at lunchtime.

From hearty portions of fresh spaghetti cooked with garlic, red wine and chilli, meat and vegetarian options, rich Italian wines and groceries, and warm, fresh paninis, it’s a deli with a difference!

While it may not serve traditional breakfast or brunch options, it’s a great cafe to grab some takeaway food and head to the river on your lunch break.

There are only a few small tables in Giuliano’s, so I wouldn’t recommend co-working here. However, it’s a great spot to stop and have a coffee whilst watching the world go by.

🍳 My recommendation: the tagliatelle with mushrooms and truffle cream. Not only does it taste good, but the portion sizes are huge! You won’t go hungry when eating at Giulianos!

8) Blåbär Nordic Cafe

📍Location: 3a Lacy Road

⏰ Opening times: 9 am – 5 pm Daily

☕️ Menu: coffee, tea, traditional Swedish ‘fika’ (afternoon treats), buns, open-top sandwiches, salads, toasties, smoothies

💻 Digital nomad friendly: Yes

🛜 Website: Blabar Putney

Next to Giuliuno’s Deli is the all-Nordic design store & café, Blåbär. Created with the aim of giving you the full Scandinavian experience, Blåbär opened in 2016, and has been serving hot drinks, breakfast bites and traditional Swedish ‘fika’ to local Londoners ever since.

Spread across two floors, Blåbär has a cafe serving hot drinks and treats, a deli offering Scandinavian essentials such as caviar and crispbread, and a beautiful store full of homeware, gifts and accessories by Nordic brands and designers.

It’s definitely not your average cafe, especially with the minimalist and Nordic design of the store immersing you in the Scandinavian culture. It’s a great cafe in Putney, and is well worth a visit!

🍳 My recommendation: the Cinnamon buns – aka a ‘fika’ essential!

9) Another Brother 

📍Location: 187 Putney Bridge Rd

⏰ Opening times: 7.30 am – 4 pm Daily

☕️ Menu: hot and cold drinks, pastries and cakes, granola bowls, butties, avo on toast, stuffed croissants, sourdough, toasties and more.

💻 Digital nomad friendly: Yes

🛜 Website: Another Brother

“Our goal is to create spaces for everyone. This means us as brothers, the teams that work their socks off every day, and our customers. It means the mums, the dads, the kids, the dog walkers, the dogs, the laptop users, the foodies and the coffee lovers.” Another Brother website.

With cafes in Putney and Shepherd’s Bush, Another Brother has quickly become a staple of good coffee in southwest London.

Founded by two brothers from Sheffield, Another Brother was born from a desire to make good coffee for every type of person.

With a large seating area perfect for co-working, a wholesome atmosphere, ridiculously good coffee and a counter full of treats, what more could you ask for?!

The perfect cafe in Putney for a tasty breakfast and a creamy coffee.

🍳 My recommendation: “The Breakfast”. A plate full of crispy bacon, Cumberland sausage, charred tomato, roast mushroom and two poached eggs on toasted sourdough with fresh chives. I mean, wow.

10) Arise Coffee Roasters

📍Location: 2 Plaza Gardens

⏰ Opening times: 7.30 am – 4 pm Weekdays | 9 am – 4 pm Weekends

☕️ Menu: coffee, smoothies, freshly pressed juices, teas, toasties, sourdough, muffins, oats, salmon buns, smashed avo, eggs, keto plates and more.

💻 Digital nomad friendly: Yes

🛜 Website: Arise

Open since 2020, Arise Coffee Roasters is a local favourite, especially for co-working.

We often pop in for a cappuccino on our way home from London, as it’s conveniently placed opposite East Putney station (and it serves some of the best coffee in the area).

With both indoor and outdoor tables, Arise is the perfect co-working spot. Either take your laptop and catch up on work or sit by the window whilst drinking a speciality coffee!

🍳 My recommendation: the smashed avo on toast. You just can’t go wrong! I’ve also heard the banana and Nutella pancakes are a winner…

11) Sweet Tooth Cafe

📍Location: 275 Upper Richmond Rd

⏰ Opening times: 8 am – 4 pm Daily

☕️ Menu: classic English breakfasts, toasties, eggs benedict, French toast, shakshuka, pulled pork, Turkish eggs, halloumi, omelettes, pancakes, jacket potatoes and more!

💻 Digital nomad friendly: Yes

🛜 Website: Sweet Tooth Cafe

Another solid favourite of ours when it comes to the best cafes in Putney is Sweet Tooth.

Serving organic and fair trade tea and coffee, as well as using local dairy providers such as Brades Farm and Barbican Butchers, Sweet Tooth serves a delicious brunch with a difference.

Choose from their extensive menu of savoury and sweet options, including meals for both breakfast and lunch. They also offer small sweet treats, such as croissants, cakes and afternoon snacks.

The outdoor patio is perfect for the warmer months and is especially great for those wanting to work remotely while sitting outside.

🍳 My recommendation: The avo halloumi bun. I’m a sucker for anything with halloumi in it, and this didn’t disappoint! Expect a brioche bun filled with grilled halloumi, smashed avocado and tomato. Yum.

12) Dropshot Coffee

📍Location: 79 Lower Richmond Rd (plus a standalone coffee stand at East Putney station)

⏰ Opening times: 7 am – 4 pm Daily

☕️ Menu: full-English breakfasts, French toast, salmon, granola, soups, pancakes, smashed avo, halloumi, bacon and sausage baps, baked eggs and more.

💻 Digital nomad friendly: Yes

🛜 Website: Dropshot

“DropShot Coffee is an independent speciality coffee shop and eatery, in Southfields, South-West London. Just down the road from Wimbledon tennis, we serve up seriously good coffee alongside our all-day brunch menu.” – Dropshot Coffee website.

One of the trendiest cafes in Putney is Dropshot. With both a dine-in cafe on Lower Richmond Road and a quick coffee stop at East Putney station, Dropshot serves some of the best coffee in southwest London.

Perfect for lunch dates, brunch meet-ups, co-working and slow mornings, Dropshot serves delicious food as well as creamy artisan coffee. It’s one of our favourite weekend hang-outs, and is well worth a visit!

☕️ TOP TIP: The coffee in Dropshot is DELICIOUS. Even if you don’t have time to sit in, grab a cappuccino or a latte on your way in/out of East Putney station. You’ll never visit a coffee chain again!

🍳 My recommendation: The Grass Court. A halloumi and asparagus stack with broad beans. Sounds strange, and tastes absolutely incredible.

13) Artisan Coffee

🛜 Website: Artisan Coffee

“We like to get geeky – we spend our evenings talking about brew ratios, TDS levels (that’s the water and our reverse osmosis system), water pressure and, microfoam, to name a few. This is not just because we love what we do, but because we want you to discover the beauty of great coffee.” – Artisan website

We are so blessed with coffee in Putney, as Artisan is another incredible coffee stop, just a few minutes from mainline Putney station.

Boasting fresh and flawless coffee every serve, Artisan is a coffee-focused, fun-loving space that has all been built by hand (and the design inside is amazing).

With noticeable Australian influences, Artisan is one of my favourite spots for remote working. It has plenty of tables both inside and outside, spread out wide enough to be able to work and enjoy your coffee in peace.

Perfect for an afternoon coffee, a sweet treat and a fun co-working space with some really fun music playing. One of my favourite cafes and co-working spots in Putney, by far!

🍳 My recommendation: the stuffed donuts!

14) Waterstones Cafe

Is there a better combo than coffee and books?! Waterstones in the Putney Exchange has a cute and cosy cafe serving breakfast, lunch and delicious coffee to those wanting to read, relax or work.

We often pop into the Waterstones Cafe after buying a new book as it’s a calm and quiet space for reading and zoning out for a while.

Plus, you can get a free drink when you buy one of Waterstone’s books of the month!

15) HomeWork Working Space

📍Location: 192 Upper Richmond Road

More of a co-working spot than a cafe, HomeWork is one of the best additions to Putney High Street for remote workers.

Whilst you do need to pay to enter HomeWork and use the facilities, you’ll have access to desks, super fast wifi, private phone booths, meeting rooms, chill out zones and of course, an exceptional cup of coffee.

The Putney branch also hosts happy hours and social events, so you can make some new friends and meet new people in the area with ease.

If you’re looking for a collaborative environment with endless amounts of coffee, a social atmosphere and a boost in your productivity, HomeWork is the place for you!

Where to stay in Putney, London

If you’re visiting Putney for the first time and need a place to stay to check out the area, here are some of the best-located apartments and hotels.

Getting around Putney

Southwest London isn’t as tricky to drive in as Central London, and most people in the area own a car. If you’re visiting for a short amount of time, it may be worth hiring a car to get around to some of the parks, attractions and museums.

If you don’t want to drive, there are regular trains until midnight and buses in Putney 24 hours a day. You can use your contactless card on both trains and buses in London.
